I–V characteristics: practical workbook
GCSE Physics required practical 4
Everything for the i–V characteristics required practical in one printable workbook: the method, a blank table, a full simulated data set to analyse, exam questions and answers.
What is inside
- The practical: aim, variables, apparatus and the method in plain steps
- Risk assessment to complete
- Blank results table with the right headings, drawn before you start
- A seeded data set: a full set of classroom-realistic results to process
- Graph paper page
- Analysis questions on the data set, including unseen-data questions
- A 6-mark method question
- Answers at the back: the completed table, the graph, worked answers and mark points
The practical: Measure how the current through a resistor, a filament lamp and a diode depends on the potential difference across it, in both directions, and plot their I–V characteristics.
Work through it the way it is done in class: plan and assess the risks, draw the table first, then process a complete data set from a simulated class run, with repeats and the kind of anomaly real results contain. Plot the graph on the graph paper provided, answer exam-style questions on the same numbers and finish with a 6-mark method question.
Answers at the back show the completed table, the graph with its line, worked calculations and the marking points, so a student can check their own work. The data come from the Study Hack Lab model; the seed printed on every page makes them again exactly.
